Confucius Institute Summer Camp in China 2019

Between July 14 – 27, 2019, Confucius Institute at Comenius University in Bratislava in cooperation with SUIBE (Shanghai University of International Business and Economics) organizes “
Confucius Institute Summer Camp 2019“.

Participants of the summer camp shall be university students and/or young people aged between 18-35 interested in Chinese language and culture.

The summer camp will take place in Beijing (Beijing Foreign Studies University); Guiyang (Guizhou University, Huaxi District) and Shanghai, Gubei District (Shanghai University of International Business and Economics).

Teaching will be provided in English, by certified Chinese lectors and teachers..

The Headquarters of the Confucius Institutes (HANBAN) in Beijing covers all participants’ costs within China (i.e. accommodation with breakfast, teaching, sightseeing entries, train tickets to Guiyang and Shanghai).

PARTICIPANTS SHALL COVER ON THEIR OWN:

  • return flight (Vienna – Shanghai – approx. EUR 850)
  • visa application fee
  • international travel insurance
  • meals (except for breakfast)
  • deposit of EUR 220 paid on the account of the Chinese side, shall be returned to the participants after their arrival in China in RMB, according to the current exchange rate – can be used for purchasing board during the summer camp
  • preparatory Chinese language course organized by Confucius Institute at Comenius University (in case participants are not Confucius Institute students of Chinese language course). The course will take place between March and June 2019, course fee is EUR 80 / 30 hours)

There are two options to purchase the air ticket:

a) participants buy the Vienna-Beijing and Shanghai-Vienna air tickets themselves and arrive at specified hotel in Beijing on July 14.

b) the air tickets will be arranged by the Confucius Institute at UK in Bratislava – in such case the air ticket deposit in the amount of EUR 850 shall be paid to the Confucius Insitute by March 15, 2019.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • university or high school student, if not studying Chinese language or person interested in Chinese language and/or culture aged between 18 – 35 with at least basic knowledge of English or a graduate of Chinese language course of the Confucius Institute at Comenius University in Bratislava
  • good medical condition enabling abroad travel
  • respecting all summer camp rules set by the SUIBE university in Shanghai
  • submitting the filled in application form
    CV and short motivation
    copies of first two passport pages (the passport must be valid at least another one year) and deposit of EUR 220 (will be paid later)

汉语桥 ● Chinese Bridge ● 17th year of Chinese Proficiency Competition

Qualification round of the 17th year of international Chinese proficiency comptition for university students from the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic 汉语桥 ● Chinese Bridge took place at Confucius Insitute at Comenius University in Bratislava on May 18, 2018 under the auspices of
HANBAN, the Confucius Institute Headquarters and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Slovakia.

The topic of the qualification round was:  天下一家 – “One World, One Family“. The competition winner (best in the qualification round) advanced to compete in semifinals and finals in China.

SCHEME OF THE PRELIMINARY COMPETITION OF 17TH “CHINESE BRIDGE”- CHINESE PROFICIENCY COMPETITION FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC THE AND CZECH REPUBLIC.
PROGRAM BACKGROUND
The “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Competition for Foreign College Students is a large-scale international Chinese competition organized by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). Since 2002, it has held a total of 16 sessions, attracted nearly a thousand contestants from more than 70 countries, and established a bridge of communication between China and the rest of the world. Since the competition was held in Slovakia and Czech Republic, it has become an important platform for Chinese language students in Slovakia and Czech Republic to share their learning achievements. The number of participants has been increasing, and the enthusiasm for learning Chinese is also rising. The competition has been widely acclaimed by both Slovak and Czech sinology.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Contractor, co-organized establishes heats Organizing Committee of the seventeenth session of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition, responsible to decision-making and implementation of the specific activities of the Division preliminaries.

TOPIC OF THE COMPETITION: 天下一家,One World, One Family 
DATE OF THE COMPETITION: 18th May, 2018

PARTICIPANTS:
Aged 18 to 30 years, with foreign nationality, born and raised in a foreign country, foreign non-native Chinese College students. Contestants who has been winning the last two consecutive cannot participate in the competition.

COMPETITION REGULATIONS & CONTENT:
Each University and Confucius Institute has a quota of 2-4 seats. The ultimate number of participants depends on specific situation. The deadline of the application is 20th April 2018.

The duration time for each competitor is 12 minutes, which contains the following 4 aspects:
1. TOPIC SPEECH according to the theme “One World, One Family”; (3 min)
2. LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: Quiz: Numbers of question sets will be determined by drawing lots; each question set has 4 questions (2 min)
3. TALENT SHOW: e.g. Chinese songs, musical instruments, dance, opera, acrobatics, calligraphy, painting, paper cutting or martial arts etc.; (3 min)
4. INTERACTIVE QUIZ: contestants answer 2 or 3 questions raised by the judges. (2 min)

Competition Organizing Committee will invite sinologists, Chinese teachers and other experts to compose the panel of judges to score and judge the contestants’ performance.

SPECIFIC PROCESS OF THE COMPETITION (May 18th , 2018)
13:00   Contestants arrive at the scene, draw lots and learn about the competition rules.
13:30   Judges arrive at the scene, learn about the scoring rules, competition process and the contestants.
13:45   Honored guests and audiences arrive at the scene.
14:00   Opening ceremony begins. The guests present speeches.
14:30   Competition starts.
16:45   Competition ends. Judges have a discussion meeting. Audiences watch the guzheng
             performances.
17:00   Moderators announce the results, awards and organize group photos.
17:20   Buffet and free talk time.
18:00   Activity ends.

COMPETITION AWARDS
–  The 1st prize, 2nd prizes, 3rd prizes and several outstanding awards.
–  Contestants get certificates and prizes.
–  Student who wins the first prize will be qualified to go to China in July for the semi-finals and finals.
–  The ultimately winners will also get scholarships to further their studies in China as rewards.

We will invite Chinese Companies to participate and provide sponsorship.

We will invite Xinhua News Agency、The European Times as well as local medias and magazines
to participate in the report.

Teaching Chinese Language in Slovakia and Czechia (formerly Czecho-Slovakia) has long tradition. In Slovakia, systematic academic study of Chinese language and culture is possible at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University as of 1988. Since that time, the Department of East Asian Studies produced dozens of graduates – competent interpreters, translator or teachers of Chinese language.

The conference is a meeting of teachers, university pedagogues, translators and interpreters of Chinese language, who can share their pedagogical, translating or interpreting experience. The aim of the conference is to share knowledge and exchange know-how in order to improve Chinese language education on all levels, be it in language schools, primary or secondary schools, as well as university level or courses organised by the Confucius Institute. In addition to this, the exchange of knowledge and know-how shall improve the quality of translation and interpretation into/from Chinese language.

Summer Camp in Shanghai 2018

Between July 14 – 28, 2018, Confucius Institute at Comenius University in Bratislava in cooperation with SUIBE (Shanghai University of International Business and Economics) organizes “Confucius Institute Summer Camp 2018“.

Participants of the summer camp shall be university students and/or young people aged between 18-30 interested in Chinese language and culture.

The summer camp will take place at campus of the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Gubei District, Shanghai with perfect access to most places of interest within Shanghai and Shanghai city centre – distance about 10-20 minutes via metro or taxi. Another location of the summer camp is the campus of Beijing Foreign Studies University in Beijing.

Teaching will be provided in English, by certified Chinese lectors and teachers..

The Headquarters of the Confucius Institutes (HANBAN) in Beijing covers all participants’ costs within China (i.e. accommodation with breakfast, teaching, sightseeing entries, return ticket to fast train from Shanghai to Beijing).

PARTICIPANTS SHALL COVER ON THEIR OWN:

  • return flight (Vienna – Shanghai – approx. EUR 850)
  • drop-on and drop-off to the airports (Vienna, Shanghai)
  • visa application fee
  • international travel insurance
  • meals (except for breakfast)
  • administration fee of EUR 50 – paid to the account of Confucius Institute (if buying return flight via Confucius Institute – this fee is included in the flight deposit of EUR 850)

There are two options to purchase the air ticket:
a) participants buy the round trip themselves and arrive at specified hotel in Shanghai on July 14.

b) the round trip will be arranged by the Confucius Institute at UK in Bratislava – in such case the air ticket deposit shall be paid to the Confucius Insitute account by April 15.
